How it all began...
Our Story
Tucked in an amazing community called davenport Village, Century Park Tavern was born out of the rubble of one of Toronto’s most industrial areas.
The once owned General Electric Heritage building gives Century Park Tavern the feeling that you are sitting in a part of Toronto’s great history.
With our already successful brand of Love Chix and the impact we have on the community, it was an easy decision to bring our skills and create a restaurant that will become a part of the community now and continue a Century from now.
History of
The Powerhouse
The Canada Foundry Company moved to the spot in 1903 and fabricated steel and iron products – including locomotives – for nearly 80 years. Now a protected heritage site, the conversion of the building has been changed to add to the already thriving community of Davenport Village.
The remnants of what was once the largest free standing structure in Canada, was a large smokestack that is represented in brick and can be seen around the buildings edge. In 1923, it was sold to General Electric and created the power for the foundry’s across the street that have now been transformed into some of the city's most unique lofts..
One of Toronto’s most interesting architects E.J. Lennox also had a large part in the design of the foundry that produced whimsical objects, such as over-the-top Edwardian dragons. These were originally placed in Old City Hall, and can now be seen at Toronto Archives. Along with these dragons, Lennox’s unique architecture represent historical reminders of the intense and delicate workmanship that the area of Davenport Village produced.
